Police seek two suspects after East Village shooting near Bow River grazes bystander

Calgary police are searching for two suspects after an East Village shooting near the Bow River grazed a bystander early July 13, 2026. Witnesses urged to call.

A woman in her 20s was grazed by a bullet during an East Village shooting outside the Red Room Lounge early Monday, Calgary police said, prompting a citywide search for two suspects. The injured bystander was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and investigators are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Shooting Occurred Outside Red Room Lounge

Police say they were called to the Red Room Lounge at about 4:45 a.m. on July 13 after reports of gunfire at the intersection of Riverfront Avenue S.E. and Third Street S.E. Officers found a woman who had been struck in the knee area; she was treated by EMS and transported to hospital.

Surveillance footage reviewed by investigators and property owners showed an altercation between two men outside the lounge before a shot was fired, Calgary Police Service said. The firearm struck a woman who was described as an innocent bystander.

Owner and Cameras Provide Initial Evidence

Kevin Tychomick, owner of Browns Food Service and Equipment Sales, said he was awakened by police and later reviewed his security footage. He told officers the cameras captured the woman being shot, providing crucial early evidence for investigators.

Police have seized footage and are combing through video from nearby businesses and private cameras to piece together the movements of the suspects. Detectives said such footage is vital to identify the two individuals believed to have been involved.

Large Crowd, Few Witnesses Willing to Talk

Despite as many as 150 people being present outside the lounge at the time of the East Village shooting, police have spoken to only a small number of witnesses. Staff Sergeant Mike Sushelnitsky said that so far only three people have chosen to come forward and speak with investigators.

Sushelnitsky urged members of the public to cooperate, saying investigative progress depends on community assistance. He warned that failure to share information hampers the police’s ability to crack down on gun violence and protect innocent bystanders.

Victim’s Condition and Hospital Response

Medical responders treated the woman at the scene before transporting her to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, officials confirmed. Calgary Police and EMS described the wound as a graze rather than a penetrating injury, and the patient was stable after assessment.

No arrests have been announced in connection with the incident, and investigators continue to gather forensic evidence from the scene. Police said ballistic analysis and witness statements remain central to establishing what took place during the altercation.

Police Appeal for Public Tips and Safety Information

Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the East Village shooting or who may have dashcam or cellphone video to contact Calgary police at 403-266-1234. Anonymous tips can also be provided to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or through the P3 Tips app.

Authorities emphasized that even small pieces of information — the direction a suspect fled, a vehicle description, or a short video clip — can be critical. Police reiterated that tips can be submitted anonymously and that caller confidentiality is protected through established programs.

Shooting Adds to City’s Ongoing Gun-Violence Concerns

Monday’s incident marks the 48th shooting in Calgary this year, officials noted, underscoring ongoing concerns about firearm-related violence in the city. The Calgary Police Service has repeatedly urged communities and businesses to report suspicious behaviour and to share footage that could assist investigations.

Municipal leaders and community groups have called for renewed efforts on prevention, outreach, and enforcement as Calgary grapples with the public safety implications of repeated shootings. Police say their response combines immediate investigative work with longer-term strategies to reduce gun crime.

The investigation remains active and detectives continue to follow up on leads collected from witnesses and surveillance. Anyone with information related to the East Village shooting is asked to contact police at 403-266-1234 or provide anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
