Calgary woman charged in firearms trafficking tied to Madisson Cobb killing

A Calgary woman has been charged with firearms trafficking in connection with the fatal shooting of Madisson Cobb, adding to an ongoing investigation into how the weapon used in the July 19, 2025, killing entered the city. The firearms trafficking charge against 38-year-old Reanna Mader was laid June 9, 2026, and she has been released pending a July 9 court appearance. Police say this is the second trafficking-related charge linked to the case as investigators pursue all people involved in the weapon’s movement.

Second suspect charged in firearms trafficking

Police announced on June 9 that Reanna Mader, a Calgary resident, faces one count of firearms trafficking in relation to the death of 23-year-old Madisson Cobb. Mader, 38, was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on July 9, 2026, according to the Calgary Police Service.

Investigators said the trafficking charge follows a multi-month probe by a dedicated firearms investigation team that focused on how the firearm used in Cobb’s death was obtained and moved. Authorities did not allege Mader fired the weapon, but that she organized or facilitated its sale.

Firearms seized during February search of southwest Calgary home

A targeted search warrant executed on Feb. 3, 2026, at a residence in the 2700 block of 16 Avenue S.W. led officers to seize seven firearms, several air guns and assorted ammunition. One of the seized long guns had an altered serial number, a detail central to the separate firearms probe that developed after Cobb’s killing.

The Feb. 3 seizure also produced items described by police as prohibited devices, prompting additional charges against another man arrested in connection with the search. The evidence recovered is being examined for links to the weapon used in the July 2025 homicide.

Charges laid against man arrested after seizure

Following the Feb. 3 search, Gordon Kesh Cameron, 44, was charged with multiple firearms offences, including two counts of firearms trafficking, two counts of failing to report a firearm lost or stolen, and one count of possession of prohibited devices. Cameron remains charged in relation to items recovered during the search, police said.

Authorities have indicated the charges against Cameron arose from the material seized at the southwest Calgary address and from investigative steps taken after the firearm used in Cobb’s death was found to have a defaced serial number. Court documents and additional police statements will determine whether further charges are laid as the probe continues.

How the weapon was linked to Madisson Cobb’s death

On July 19, 2025, Madisson Cobb, 23, was fatally shot in a parkade at the Shops at Heritage at 8335 Macleod Trail S.E., near where she worked. She was pronounced dead at the scene, and two days later police charged 27-year-old Devon Malik with first-degree murder.

Investigators recovered the firearm used in the killing soon after Malik’s arrest and noted the serial number had been removed or altered. That discovery prompted a separate firearms investigation focused on tracing the weapon’s origin and the chain of sale that brought it to Calgary.

Investigators identify alleged organiser of firearm sale

As detectives followed leads from the defaced-serial firearm, they say they identified an individual believed to have arranged the sale of the weapon. That inquiry culminated in the trafficking charge against Mader, who investigators say played a role in the firearm’s transfer.

Police stress the probe targeted anyone connected to the weapon’s distribution, not solely the person who discharged it. Officials described the work as part of a broader effort to disrupt illegal firearm supply networks in Calgary.

Police renew appeal for information from the public

Calgary police urged anyone with information relevant to the case to contact investigators and stressed that even small details can be significant. Tips may be phoned in to general dispatch at 403-266-1234 or provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or via the P3 Tips mobile app.

Staff Sgt. Mike Shute of the CPS homicide unit said investigators remain committed to pursuing every lead and holding all participants in gun violence accountable. Authorities continue to coordinate evidence analysis and interview witnesses as court dates approach.

The case remains active and ongoing, with further disclosures and possible additional charges expected as police and prosecutors continue to build their files ahead of upcoming court appearances.
